Directories, paths and files
Directories
are drawers on a disk. The root directory is the first
drawer - the disk itself. The current directory is the one
you last CD-ed to. If you have not used CD, have a look at
our CLI window. Usually it will have the current directory
written before the prompt. ( 1:> or similar)
Paths
Paths show which directories AmigaDOS must open to get to a
destination - a path it must follow. On your Workbench disk
there is a program in the Prefs drawer (or directory) called
Palette. Its path is
Workbench2.0:Prefs
Files
are the basic storage unit on a computer. All the CLI
commands are files. In a simplified form, files are
anything on a disk that is not a drawer. Application
programs are files. When you save text from a WordProcessor
it is saved to a file
